Bridge built in Aurora to help residents cross Malacauayan River through GMA Kapuso Foundation
Over 4,000 residents in Dingalan, Aurora, can now safely cross Malacauayan River through the new bridge inaugurated by GMA Kapuso Foundation.
According to a “24 Oras” report Tuesday, the sixth “Kapuso Tulay” can help residents safely cross the river, which has caused accidents and floods.
“Ilang beses ko na rin po inutang ang buhay ko sa kapwa ko. Nalunod ako, nasagip ako,” said resident Jeremy Astrea.
Neddie Astejada said she had an accident when she tried crossing the river while riding her motorcycle. “Sobrang takot na takot po ako ta’s pakiramdam ko mamamatay na yata ako nung araw na ’yon,” she said, adding that she was rescued by the neighbors.
Hilda Bautista Borreo, meanwhile, recalled when she lost her hold on her child while they were crossing the rushing river.
“Dalawang oras lang po siyang pumasok ng eskwelahan, amin na po siyang sinundo. Noong kami po ay tatawid na, ayan na po ang malaking baha. Nakabitaw po siya,” she said.
The construction for the 70-meter concrete bridge, which was part of GMA Kapuso Foundation’s “Kapuso Tulay Para sa Kaunlaran” project, started in June.
It replaced the old wooden bridge in Barangay Umiray that was damaged due to typhoons and other factors.
Apart from building a bridge, GMA Kapuso Foundation and its partners planted trees in the area to help protect the newly built structure.
“Sobrang thankful po namin na nagkaro’n po ng tulay dito sa aming lugar. Wala nang magbubuwis pa ng buhay para lang makatawid,” Astejada said.
The GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, PayMaya, Cebuana Lhuillier, Shopee, GCash, Zalora, Mega Mart, and Globe Rewards.
