26 transwomen to compete in first-ever Miss International Queen Philippines

A total of 26 Filipina transwomen are set to compete in the first-ever Philippine franchise of the Miss International Queen pageant.

In Nelson Canlas' report on "24 Oras Weekend," Sunday, national director Michelle Montecarlo said this will be the first time the Philippines will send an official candidate in Pattaya, Thailand.

From over 200 applicants, 26 were chosen to compete with each other for the chance to take part in the international pageant.

Aside from representing the LGBTQIA+ community, Montecarlo said the ladies advocate for the human rights of all.

"I take it as a responsibility more than a dream," candidate Rui Mariano said.

The Miss International Queen pageant is held yearly in Pattaya. The 16th edition will be in March 2022.

Since 2004, the first pageant for transgender women had crowned two Filipinas—Kevin Balot in 2012 and Trixie Maristela in 2015.
