UP, DLSU among Philippine schools in new world university rankings
University of the Philippines and De La Salle University are among the Philippine institutions included in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
According to THE, however, both schools retained their inclusion but dropped several notches down the list.
UP fell 601-800 from 401-500 in 2021, while DLSU ranked 1,201+ compared to its 1,001+ spot last year.
Although the two universities slid down, these were the only schools from the Philippines that placed in the 2022 list of THE, which ranked 1,662 universities across 99 countries and territories.
Ateneo de Manila University also appeared in the list but with a “reporter” status, which meant it provided data but did not meet the eligibility criteria to receive a rank.
On Thursday, DLSU celebrated its inclusion in the global rankings, citing that it was the “lone Philippine private university” to rank in THE World University Rankings for four consecutive years.
“Thank you for a job well done. May you remain steadfast in the face of enormous challenges, as we pursue our Lasallian mission to transform lives and our nation through education,” said a statement by DLSU President Br. Bernard Oca FSC shared on the university’s Facebook page.
The United Kingdom’s University of Oxford continued to top the rankings for the sixth consecutive year, while China had two universities, namely Peking University and Tsinghua University, in the top 20 for the first time.
According to THE, it bases its world university rankings on teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. – RC, GMA News
