Rain Matienzo names her Miss Universe Philippines 2021 bets

TikTok sensation and Kapuso artist Rain Matienzo has named her bets for the Miss Universe Philippines 2021 crown.

In an interview with GMA News Online, the “Conyo Girl” and beauty queen aspirant said she was rooting for Rousanne “Ayn” Bernos.

“I just love how she wants to defy beauty standards and she’s been told that she’s not the beauty standard and that’s exactly why she joined,” she said in a mix of English and Filipino.

“She’s not super tall, and I don’t know what the beauty pageant standard is but to me, she’s beautiful. Just having her storm through all those criticisms still with her head high, I applaud her so much.”

Ayn recently addressed the criticism that she didn’t stand a chance compared with other candidates, saying her reason for joining was to represent women like her.

Rain said she was looking forward to seeing Ayn take over the Miss Universe Philippines stage.

“Coming into it, she’s so genuine about her cause with regards to colorism so I [want to] see how she champions that in the pageant,” she said.

According to Rain, another candidate she’s supporting is Taguig City’s Katrina Dimaranan.

“I like her because I watched her. I’m a reality TV [fan] so I watched her in ‘Love Island.’ I said, ‘Oh my gosh, I know this person.’ There’s that factor. Little fangirl but she’s beautiful,” she said in Filipino.

Ayn and Katrina are among the top 75 candidates vying for the Miss Universe Philippines 2021 crown.

Earlier this month, Rain revealed that she planned to join the pageant in the near future. – RC, GMA News
