"Louis and Liam" then joined the hashtag "#11YearsOfOneDirection" in the top Twitter trends.
One Direction was formed in 2010 when the five members, who entered "The X-Factor" as solo candidates, were grouped together to form a boy band. They signed with Simon Cowell's record label after placing third in the competition.
After Zayn's departure, remaining members Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Liam Payne continued on as a four-piece collective to release what turned out to be their last album, "Made in the A.M." Later that year, they announced they were going on a hiatus.
The members have since pursued their solo careers. —JCB, GMA News
