Cops help pregnant woman deliver her baby in Iloilo plaza

Three police officers are being lauded for helping a pregnant woman deliver her baby in a plaza in Jaro, Iloilo.

According to a statement from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Vinjie Nebit, Roman Paja, and Rico Yan Inocencio were conducting beat patrol at Jaro Plaza last June 27 when they heard a cry for help.

The call was from 27-year-old Ma. Cecilia Cesima who suddenly went into labor. Prior to this, she was spotted roaming aimlessly around the plaza.

The three policemen were quick to respond and helped Cesima safely deliver her baby girl.

They then brought mother and child to the West Visayas State University Medical Center for proper medical attention.

While there, they continued to tend to Cesima and the baby. They even provided them with milk and diapers.

According to the statement, the two were placed under the care of the City Social Welfare and Development Office until their relatives can fetch them.

PNP Chief Police General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar lauded the three police officers for extending assistance to Cesima.

“Saludo ako sa tatlong pulis na ito na hindi nagatubili tulungan ang babae sa kanyang panganganak (I salute these three policemen who didn't hesitate in helping the woman give birth)," he said. "Nagawa nilang tumugon at tumulong sa taong nangangailangan ng agarang responde maski na kakaiba ang sitwasyon (They were able to help a person in need despite the unusual circumstances)."

“Ganito ang mga pulis na dapat gawing inspirasyon at huwaran ng ating hanay. Mga may tunay na malasakit sa kapwa at nasa puso ang serbisyo (These are the kind of policemen that we should take as inspiration. They have genuine compassion for our countrymen and they take service to heart),” he added. —JCB, GMA News
