GMA Network recipient of Rotary Club of Manila’s Pro Patria Journalism Award 2021

GMA Network on Thursday was named one of the recipients of Rotary Club of Manila’s (RCM) Pro Patria Journalism Award 2021.

GMA Network Senior Vice President Marissa L. Flores received the award on behalf of the Kapuso network from RCM virtually via a Zoom meeting.

According to RCM, it is presenting the Pro Patria Journalism Awards 2021 during these challenging times for the media’s “commitment to valuable resources for the protection of free expression and its resilience in disseminating fair and truthful information resulting in an informed and enlightened citizenry.”

“By its fearless and selfless use of its platform and facilities for constructive criticisms of government policies and actions and encouraging and confident scrutiny of private enterprise and by promoting private and public sector collaboration in building a strong nation of healthy, peaceful, confident and dynamic people all for the love of country,” RCM said during the virtual event.

In her speech, Flores commended and dedicated the award to all teams of GMA Network from all platforms.

“GMA News and Public Affairs teams in television, radio, and web have covered all kinds of nature events and calamities but perhaps in recent times none as risky as this pandemic,” she said.

“It is to them reporters, crew, our field and production personnel and staff. Those who work tirelessly to deliver the news that we dedicate this recognition,” said Flores.

“I can only imagine the fear, the worry, and anxiety that many of them face every day that they have to leave their homes and family to cover this invisible enemy,” she added.

“No one is immune from COVID and no one is immune from fear but we all do what we have to do in the best way we can because the public depends on us.”

She also thanked Rotary Club of Manila for recognizing GMA Network. “You can count on our truthful, ethical, and responsible journalism and our serbisyong totoo especially during these most difficult times,” Flores ended her speech.

Instead of giving individual journalism awards as a tradition of the RCM, the organization decided to dedicate awards to media outlets in print, radio, and TV networks “which remained open as formal outlets for reports and information  on important events and government actions that impact on the lives of our people and to encourage awareness on matters of public concern.”
