Samantha Bernardo’s Miss Grand International national costume is inspired by the Philippine eagle
The Philippines’ candidate Samantha Bernardo slayed as an “agila” at the 2020 Miss Grand International national costume competition on Wednesday.
According to designer Patrick Isorena, her costume “Agila” was inspired by the Philippine eagle, the country’s national bird and among the most powerful feathered creatures in the world.
“This costume [intends] to create awareness because the Philippine Eagle is critically endangered, mainly due to massive loss of habitat resulting from deforestation in most of its range,” he shared on Instagram.
“Just like gold it is extravagant, wealthy, rich and indestructible, like Samantha—a queen who never gave up on her dreams,” he said.
Patrick said that he used gold to represent Samantha’s journey and to pay homage to the Miss Grand International golden crown.
On Tuesday, Samantha shared a video of herself as the “Goddess of Pearls,” which was inspired by the jewels of Palawan, where she came from.
Samantha previously showed off her #GRANDnadaWalk during the swimsuit competition on Saturday, where she garnered more than 200,000 views, 28,000 likes and 5,000 comments.
A few hours ago, Miss Grand International announced that she was among the top five in the best in swimsuit competition.
The coronation event is on March 27. – RC, GMA News
