The Philippines' first bike and e-scooter sharing service is headed to BGC

Make way for Moovr PH, the newest ride service app in town.

Instead of cars, though, this one will mobilize commuters with bikes and e-scooters!

Founder and General Manager Anna Moncupa on Thursday introduced the initiative to the press, saying that it will "greatly change and enhance how we move around the city."

"Our roads are getting more congested and inter-city travel takes longer, so we wanted to offer a safe and convenient way to move around," she said.

"The challenge here was really making sure it's a perfect fit for the general public in the Philippines," she added.

The company is starting its operations at the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) within the coming weeks.

Moncupa said they chose to pilot in BGC because it already has the infrastructure, such as bike lanes, and that city officials were "more than ready to support such an ambitious project in record time."

However, she said that the company aims to extend nationally in the years to come.

"In terms of expansion to other cities, we did get a lot of inquiries. But what I always say is just wait for us to launch and let us perfect this," she said.

"Because what we want to do is when we take it elsewhere it's ready. BGC is very different eh, it's sort of a bubble, and it's a contained environment. We want to make sure it's ready for other LGUs as well," she added.

Moovr PH is set to launch this December 18. Two hundred bicycles and 20 scooters will be available at the hubs scattered across BGC.

Rates for use of bikes start at P60 per hour, with an additional charge of P15 for ever 15 minutes or a fraction thereof, while e-scooters will cost P150 per hour with an additional charge of P50 for every 20 minutes or a fraction thereof.

The app will be accessibly by Android and iOS users. —JCB, GMA News
