Parols of San Fernando, Pampanga continue to shine after terror of Typhoon Ulysses
Despite the pandemic and the wrath of Typhoon Ulysses, the famous Christmas lanterns of San Fernando, Pampang are shining brighter than ever.
The Christmas Capital’s roadside lanterns along Jose Abad Santos Avenue (JASA) were repaired after Ulysses swept across Luzon with heavy rains and strong winds in the previous week. Several parts of Central Luzon experienced flooding and power interruptions during the onslaught of the typhoon.
But Kapampangan photographer Gerald Gloton was able to capture the beautiful sight that shone after the terrifying ordeal.
Gloton said seeing the parols on full blast Thursday evening filled him with a sense of hope and resiliency.
After the typhoon ravaged several parts of Luzon, more than 60 deaths were reported, at least two of which came from Central Luzon.
In its Facebook page on November 17, the City of San Fernando said it lit up its lanterns in several key areas as a way of honoring their local frontliners and giving hope to Fernandinos amidst the pandemic.
Lantern displays continue to illuminate Heroes Hall in San Juan; City Hall and Poblacion Area; and, Civic Center in San Isidro.
The parols along JASA that were damaged after Ulysses have also been repaired by the City Engineer’s Office and the local lantern makers. —JCB, GMA News
