Ateneo de Manila University cancels ACET, to base admissions on academic performance, other requirements
Ateneo de Manila University has announced that it will not hold its Ateneo College Entrance Test (ACET) for school year 2021 to 2022 amid the pandemic.
“There is a lot going on and we don’t want to create more unneeded drama and stress,” said the announcement posted on the university’s Twitter account Tuesday. “There will be no #ACET for SY 2021-22.”
In its place, the university’s Committee on Admission and Aid will pick the new batch of students based on the applicant’s “past academic performance, on the recommendations of teachers, essay, and on information written down on the application form,” according to Ateneo’s website.
With the new admissions system, the university assured the public that its “commitment to academic excellence and formation has not changed.”
It added: “Get #readyfortomorrow, the Ateneo way.”
Application period starts today, Sept. 1, until Dec. 1, 2020.
Apart from Ateneo, University of Santo Tomas also cancelled its college entrance test (USTET).
UST will implement instead the UST Admission Rating or USTAR, a score that will be “computed from a number of parameters derived largely from the academic performance and record of the applicant.” – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
