Filipino coffee shop worker in Beirut shows apartment after blast
A Filipino coffee shop worker in Beirut has shared photos of the damage wrought on her apartment by the blast that rocked the city on Tuesday.
According to Jhonalyn Cibu, she was on her day-off and taking photos of the smoke from the first explosion when another stronger blast went off.
Cibu, who stayed with a cousin at the apartment, immediately ran out of the unit, which she said was “15 minutes away” from where the explosion originated.
The overseas Filipino worker said she had lost her job due to the incident and is requesting help from the government to bring them back home.
“Baka po sakali matulungan nila kaming makauwi, wala na kami trabaho po at wala na rin kami pagkain. Sana na lang po sa government, please po nagmamakaawa po ako sa inyo na tulungan niyo po kami makauwi,” said Cibu.
She also said she feared for their safety, as there were reports that explosions may happen again.
“Hindi na po kami safe. Dahil my bali-balita pa masusundan pa po ’yung explosion,” she added.
At least 100 people were killed while over 4,000 others were injured after a blast went off in port warehouses storing highly explosive material in the capital of Lebanon.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, at least 2 Filipinos are confirmed dead and 24 others are wounded from the explosion.
