'Train to Busan' sequel 'Peninsula' among Cannes 2020 official selection

"Peninsula," the highly anticipated sequel to "Train to Busan," is among the films selected for the 73rd Cannes Film Festival lineup.

Directed by Yeon Sang-ho, the zombie flick is one of two South Korean films that made it in the 56-movie lineup of the world's biggest cinema showcase, the other one being "Heaven: To The Land of Happiness" by director Im Sang-soo.

This year's Cannes, meant to be held on May, has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Organizers made do with releasing the official selection to give filmmakers a boost.

"Pensinsula" is set four years after the harrowing events of "Train to Busan."

In "Train to Busan," Seok Woo (Gong Yoo) and his daughter board a train to Busan, and are faced with the eruption of a zombie outbreak in South Korea.

Original cast members Kang Dong Won, Lee Jung Jyun, Kwon Hae Hyo, Kim Min Jae, Go Kyo Hwan, Kim Do Yoon, Lee Re, and Lee Ye Won are set to return for the sequel.
