Fireflies light up Masungi Georeserve in Rizal
Fireflies formed illuminating trails all over the the Masungi Georeserve in Rizal on Friday night.
The Masungi Georeserve shared the enchanting sight spotted on the popular conservation area, saying that the fireflies are an indicator of how healthy the ecosystem is.
This is because bioindicator species are "sensitive to pollution or other habitat changes, making them good signs of a thriving ecosystem."
"We are thankful to see these tonight as it reaffirms our work in protecting the Masungi landscape and restoring its amazing biodiversity," it added.
The Masungi Georeserve covers over 3,000 hectares of land located in the southern Sierra Madre range in Baras, Rizal. It has been practicing conservation efforts for over 15 years.
It is also a popular activity spot for locals, who like to enjoy nature as they go through the caves, stone trails, rope courses, and a hanging bridge.
