Animal shelter staff in Florida overjoyed after emptying kennel building
For the first time ever, this animal shelter in West Palm Beach in Florida has emptied out one of its kennel buildings.
The Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control shared a video of its staff cheering as they showed off the empty cages once full of rescue animals.
According to the shelter, the kennel showed in the video was just one of three kennel buildings they have. Typically, they have about 40 to 60 dogs in each kennel building.
They also said that many of the dogs were adopted during quarantine, adding that there was an increase in adoptions starting March.
"We attribute the empty kennels to a combined effort from the community. All of the pets we’ve been able to place went to foster homes, adopters, and to our partner rescue organizations (local and out of state). We have also seen a decrease in incoming animals so that has helped as well," the shelter said.
The video has garnered over 7,500 reactions on Facebook and more than 10,000 shares.
The heartwarming video is a much-needed pick-me-up as the world continues to battle the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The global tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases has reached more than two million. The death toll continues to rise with more than 141,000, with the US recording the highest number of deaths among affected countries.
