Print studio creates 100 aerosol boxes, nearly 1,000 face shields for frontliners
A print studio has created over 100 aerosol boxes and nearly 1,000 face shields for frontliners battling the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The Orange Segment Print and Design Studio told GMA News Online that it coordinated with friends to create the fundraiser Donate an Aerosol Box, which helped them produce the units for hospitals in Luzon.
"With the fundraiser, we were able to donate over 100 units to different hospitals all over Luzon," it said.
"We produced close to 1,000 [face shields] and also facilitated the distribution of 2,000 more from other volunteer groups who sent their finished face shields to our office and had them delivered to the hospitals along with the aerosol boxes," it added.
The studio copied the initial design from the open source technical drawing of a Taiwan doctor. The face shield design was similarly from open source.
It pivoted its operations to COVID-related efforts a week after the enhanced community quarantine was imposed.
Hospitals are currently facing depleting supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other medical supplies.
Earlier, netizen Jao Achie, from the acrylic fabrication industry, produced protective glass boxes. They aim to lessen doctors' exposure to COVID-19 as they perform procedures on their patients.
As of April 7, 21 Filipino doctors have died due to the disease, according to data from the Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines (PHAP).
