Forbes Travel Guide posts record-high number of new Five-Star establishments


The Forbes Travel Guide awarded a record-high number of 107 new Five-Star honorees from the hotel, restaurant and spa sectors in this year's 2020 Star Award Winners, according to a Wednesday announcement.

The Forbes Travel Guide visited 16 countries, some of which include Asian countries Cambodia and India, for the first time.

The travel guide recognized London as the city with the most Five-Star hotels, with new additions such as The Berkeley, Brown's Hotel, a Rocco Forte Hotel, The Egerton House Hotel, the Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square, the Milestone Hotel & Residences and Rosewood London.

The tropical Maldives was also lauded for clinching six of the highest awards, where the winning hotels "went beyond their usual offerings."

For restaurants, Macau still reigned as the capital with the highest number of Five-Star dining establishments.

Among the winners, some newcomers in Macau include Lai Heen, SW Steakhouse at Wynn Palace Macau, The 8, Ying, Alcain Ducasse at Morpheus and Yi.

In Hong Kong, innovative Chinese restaurant Bo innovation and French dining place Rech by Alain Ducasse were recognized.

For spas, Macau had the highest number of new Five-Star establishments. These are: Morpheus Spa, The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Macao, Cotai Strip, The Spa at Grand Lisboa and Tria spas in MGM Cotai and MGM Macau.

There were a total of 24 spas that were awarded Five-Stars this year.

On its website, the Forbes Travel Guide described itself as the only independent rating system to determine the world's most luxurious hotels, restaurants and spas. — BAP, GMA News
