Google doodle features Filipina food technologist

Maria Orosa, a food technologist and war heroine, is featured by Google on Friday on her 126th birthday.

She is known to have used native vegetables and fruits to encourage buyers to patronize local agricultural products, as well as to have invented the Palayok Oven, which greatly helped local remote villages without access to electricity in cooking their food.

Orosa is among the people we have to thank for the banana ketchup. Yup, she is one of the brains behind the famously Filipino condiment.

Orosa is also a pharmaceutical chemist, a humanitarian, and a war heroine as she also smuggled food into Japanese-run internment camps. — BAP, GMA News
