Michelle Dee hopes to be the second Filipina to bring home the Miss World crown


Michelle Dee on Sunday said she hopes to be the second Filipina beauty queen to bring home the Miss World crown.

"I really want to give justice to our country and hopefully bring home a second Miss World crown," Michelle told GMA News Online in an interview moments after she was crowned as the new queen.

She said she feels nothing but "overwhelm and joy."

"I've worked so hard to get this point. I'm just really, really happy na all of the hard work paid off," she added.

The Kapuso beauty queen  said she plans to further her advocacy by using her title as Miss World Philippines "to spread awareness for mental health and autism."

Michelle said she's also planning to donate some of her winnings to some facilities that involve her advocacy.

"Last year the Mental Health Bill was passed so I'm currently focusing on my advocacy on autism. I'm planning to donate some of my winnings to the facilities. I want to give them the proper care that they deserve," she said.

Hours before the coronation night started, her mother Melanie Marquez was already present in the audience to show full support to Michelle. Melanie handed out whistles and lighted fans to audience to help cheer for her daughter.

Michelle confidently answered during the Question and Answer portion where she was asked what invention from the last century does she think should make a comeback.

She answered, polaroid films:

It would probably be polaroid films. I’m an avid lover of art, I love photography and I love the kind of energy and feel that polaroids give me, just being able to lay everything out and go down memory lane is such a different feeling.

In an interview with GMA News Online, Melanie Marquez said she's witnessed how confident and ready her daughter is.

“I’m not doubting my daughter and I’m glad she’s ready and I’ve seen it so the only thing I told her is to just pray,” the 1979 Miss International shared.

The former beauty queen said the advice she gave Michelle when is to "do it mentally, physically and emotionally para walang doubts."

 

 

 

 

Michelle owned the pageant early on, winning several special awards including Miss Blue Water Day Spa, Miss Myra E, Miss Best Skin, Miss Bench and Best in Sports Challenge.

Michelle will represent the country in the global pageant scheduled on December 14 in ExCel, London. Megan Young is the first Filipina to be crowned Miss World in 2013.
