Self-taught dog trainer shares bag of tricks
At three years old, an adorable Jack Russel called Milo eats, sits, and returns to his cage whenever he's told. He can also jump, dance, play dead, and roll over on command.
The dog learned all these tricks from his owner, Tristan Huertas, who amazed netizens with a video showing how his eight dogs waited patiently for their food.
The video shows the dogs assembled on a staircase sitting still. When their names were called, each would approach Huertas who then feeds them.
These well-trained dogs got their training from Huertas, who in turn did not undergo formal training to be able to command his dogs to perform tricks.
According to Ivan Mayrina's report for 24 Oras, Huertas owed most of his dog-training skills to YouTube videos, reading materials, and spending time with his pets.
"Ang ginawa ko, combination ng training 'yung positive reinforcement saka behavioral training. Kasi hindi po lahat ng aso kailangan mapasunod mo sa treats," he said.
"...'Yung pagmamahal ko sa aso pantay sa tao, pantay sa asawa ko," he added.
The self-taught trainer, who works with dogs full-time, also wants people to remember that there are lessons to be learned from training dogs.
"Ang aso, bigyan mo ng pagkain, masayang masaya na. Ang tao, minsan tulungan mo, minsan may masasabi pa sa'yo 'pag kulang 'yung pagbigay mo," he said. — Margaret Claire Layug/BAP, GMA News
