Miss Australia cried, had first panic attack over Miss Universe controversy

Miss Universe Australia Francesca Hung revealed that she cried for days and even had her first panic attack due to the online abuse she suffered following a controversy she was involved in days before the pageant's coronation night.

"I actually never experienced anger like that before, it was online abuse. I spent about three days in tears, and I had my first panic attack," she said during an interview on Australian talk show The Morning Show.

"It's hard when you're here as well, you don't have your family around you so it can be very difficult, and you're in a strange environment," she added.

Hung, along with Miss USA Sarah Rose Summer and Miss Colombia Valeria Morales, were thrown in a bad light after a clip of their Instagram live was shared online.

In the clip, the three could be heard talking about fellow candidates Miss Cambodia Rern Nat and Miss Vietnam H'Hen Nie, both of whom couldn't speak English.

Many netizens believed that the three were mocking them for their inability to speak the language.

Hung said she even deleted her Instagram account because of the bashing.

"I deleted my Instagram at one point and I just didn't do anything," she said.

However, she said that she realized that she has to be OK with what other people say about her, as long as the people around her know that she wouldn't say things like that.

"After a while I realized that I can't change other people's perspective of me. As long as I know my intentions are pure, people around me know me, they know I would never say things like that...I have to be okay with that and let other people say what they want to say," she said. —Jessica Bartolome/ LDF, GMA News
