Katarina Rodriguez bids pageants farewell: ‘I did exactly what I wanted’

Miss World Philippines 2018 Katarina Rodriguez is embracing the end of her journey as a beauty queen.

Much to the shock of pageant fans, Katarina failed to secure a spot in the Top 30 of Miss World 2018. Katarina on Wednesday wrote her first message for the people who followed her journey, filled with gratitude for everyone who believed in her.

"Despite not bringing home the blue crown, I did exactly what I wanted, I represented my beloved country for my last time & introduced to the world #ProjectBecome & the @teachpeacebuildpeacemovement," the Davaoeña beauty said.

She added, "This competition was more than just a crown. It meant becoming a woman. It was opening my heart and mind to a panel of judges, who in retrospect had their preferences, knowing the possibility that my reality wouldn’t be what they were looking for."

Katarina clarified that her loss was simply a part of life and that no one was to blame for the results. For her, the competition was a month-long casting and that "if you don’t fit the role, you won’t get the job."

Katarina first became a familiar face to Filipinos when she joined the second season of "Asia's Next Top Model" in 2014, where she and fellow Pinay Jodilly Pendre finished as runner-ups.

She joined the pageant world in 2017, being crowned Miss Intercontinental Philippines in the 54th edition of Binibining Pilipinas. She went on to represent the country in the international pageant, where she placed first runner-up. — AT, GMA News
