Catriona Gray shows the full effect of national costume with parol lit up

Sometimes, things just don't go according to plan. When things go wrong, a queen like Catriona Gray merely soldiers on.

The response to Catriona's epic national costume that featured the diversity of culture in the Philippines has been mostly positive, but there were still a handful who felt disappointed that the grand parol that Catriona pulled across the stage didn't light up.

On Tuesday, the Filipino-Australian beauty queen posted a video on her personal Instagram account to share with pageant fans the full effect of the costume.

The costume is loaded with symbolism. Catriona explained that the brass that bordered the parol is made in Apalit and is inspired by designs from the Philippine Baroque Churches that were declared as UNESCO Heritage Sites.

Her body suit shows the tattoos worn by Visayan warriors and she drew from the Inaul, Yakan, Maranao, B'laan, Bagobo, Tausug and T'nalak for her accessories.

Unang Balita reported on Wednesday that the Catriona was testing the lights backstage, but the glitch unfortunately happened just as she was about to walk the stage.

In response to the viewers who noticed that she struggled to pull the parol behind her, Catriona said that it was worth it because she was committed to the concept of her national costume.
