Filipino Catholics reminded of solemnity of Holy Week: ‘Magdasal ka rin’
President and CEO of the Catholic Media Network Fr. Francis Lucas on Friday reminded Filipino Catholics that Holy Week is a time for reflection.
Lucas in an interview with GMA News' Unang Balita explained that the rituals performed beginning on Palm Sunday are invitations to connect with the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
More and more people are choosing to use the Holy Week to go to the beach and take vacations, and even those who are performing traditional rituals like Visita Iglesia forget that it should be a pensive visit.
"Paglibot mo sa simbahan, magdadasal ka rin, hindi lang para kang turista [na] 'uy, ang laki-laki nito'," Lucas said. "Dapat 'yon, solemn."
In addition to this, Lucas appealed to the Catholic members of the public to take what the Seven Last Words of Christ to heart.
For example, "Why have you forsaken me?" means that everyone's faith wavers, but in the end, "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit", there is hope.
"Binabalikan natin na sa buhay natin laging may pag-asa at 'yong pagdurusa ng Panginoon ay hindi para sa wala," Lucas said. — Aya Tantiangco, GMA News
