Michelle Gumabao sees being an 'inexperienced' beauty queen as an opportunity
Doing spikes and tossing a volleyball may be a piece of cake for Michelle Gumabao but when it comes to beauty pageants, she admits that she's still "inexperienced".
Binibining Pilipinas recently announced the 40 Filipina candidates competing for this year's crown, and surprising everyone was Gumabao being listed as one of the hopefuls.
"I am admitting that I am new to the pageant world I am admitting my inexperience but I have watched beauty pageants as did you guys," Gumabao said in her introduction video for Binibining Pilipinas.
But she doesn't see it as a setback. In fact, Gumabao looks at it as an opportunity.
"I consider my inexperience actually as an opportunity for me, it's not a setback because I am more open to people who want to teach me, who want to coach me, who want to make me better than who I was when I first started training when I first entered Aces & Queens it was really something totally new for me."
Gumabao shared how clueless she was when she started training and added how lucky she is to have a network that saw her fit to be trained as a beauty queen.
"I didn't know anything, I was clueless, how to walk, stand, sit and how to answer questions because it's totally different from how you do in your normal life and I'm very thankful they saw me as a hardworking and very determined individual and student and I was very lucky that they took me under their wing, " Gumabao said in the video.
She said she is thrilled to "be filled with more knowledge and techniques on how to be a beauty queen."
Gumabao posted a screenshot of her introduction video on Instagram, and in the caption mentioned how everything she's good at was done with hard work. She believes she can do the same as a new beauty queen.
"Some things don't come naturally. I was never considered a naturally talented volleyball player but still, I was given the opportunity to play for our country and also be considered a professional. The attributes of being a beauty queen may not have come easy and as natural as others have experienced, but I am a hard worker, a fast learner and a dedicated candidate. And just like how I devoted my life to win gold medals and championships, I plan to do the same for a crown. "
Gumabao is a volleyball star from De La Salle University until she became a professional player. She has also tried her hand in showbiz, where her brother Marco and father Dennis are actors. Yes, she is the daughter of veteran Dennis Roldan.
She has also started "Michelle Gumabao Volleyball Camp" in 2012 helping train young aspiring volleyball players. — LA, GMA News
