Laura Lehmann’s advocacy makes top 20 of Miss World ‘Beauty With A Purpose’ segment
Miss World Philippines 2017 Laura Lehmann's advocacy has made the semifinals of Miss World's Beauty With A Purpose challenge.
In a post on her Instagram account, Lehmann said that her project, a milk bank for the pediatric ward of a hospital in Manila, is among the top 20 contenders to win this segment of the competition.

Miss World's Beauty with a Purpose challenge was established in 2001 and features the charity projects the contestants are passionate about. No candidate from the Philippines has won it yet.
In a video about her advocacy, Lehmann describes her five-year plan to help the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center, with this year focusing on helping babies whose mothers do not produce enough milk, but who also cannot afford to buy pasteurized milk.
Lehmann has helped obtain for the hospital a milk pasteurizer, an ultra low freezer where the milk can be stored for months, and mechanical breast pumps to make it easier for the mothers to pump out their milk.
"I think that when you look at the babies, and you realize how small they are, you realize how innocent they are," Lehmann says in the video, her voice breaking.
"[...Y]ou don't choose where you were born, but you can choose what you do with your life. And you can choose to help. And I know that as Miss World Philippines, I'm not Superwoman. I can't change the world. But maybe if we just do the little things, then at the end it makes a difference."
Lehmann, 24, is a courtside reporter and a TV host and is currently studying psychology.
The Miss World 2017 coronation event will be held in Sanya, China on November 18. — BM, GMA News
