The wedding guest
As is the case for happy couples, Mary Grace and Raymond Ramos were giddy about their wedding. Mary Grace had picked out a beautiful yellow gown, which was complemented by the details on the men's barongs and the dresses of everyone in the entourage.
Raymond hired his cousin Dindo to capture the day's moments, who intended to perform his task as a photographer dutifully.
Dindo had an eye for composition...and also for the supernatural. He didn't think the latter would pick anything up on the wedding, but he was surprised to find that a strange presence he felt also appeared in photographs.
"After few days ng kasal nila, chineck ko 'yong mga kinunan ko para mai-tag nga lahat kay Raymond 'yong mga pictures na 'yon. Tapos n'ong makita ko dun, uy bakit meron ganito?"
There was a woman in the photograph, wearing a yellow gown and a veil. He showed it to Mary Grace and Raymond, who helped him inspect the image.
The couldn't make out her features, but from how she was seated and where she was looking, it seemed that she was watching the ceremony.
This was the first time that she had seen anything like it and Mary Grace felt somewhat upset that such a happy occasion in her life was marred by a haunting...but she remembered that when Raymond and his father Carlito were visiting her family to ask her hand for marriage, there was also a strange incident.
Carlito sensed something was off during the gathering and when he spotted a rocking chair, he decided to relax there and sit.
However, he heard a voice in his head shouting "Umalis ka diyan! Upuan ko 'to e!" and sure enough, he felt as though someone was already there when he tried to take a seat.
Dindo himself saw a woman going down the stairs who suddenly vanished at Mary Grace's home, but dismissed it as a trick of the light.
The haunting seemed to follow Mary Grace and Raymond because a year later after the wedding, the entity appeared again during their child's baptism.
The family happily took pictures and videos at the church with their baby, which Mary Grace viewed over and over again. She was just filled with joy watching the happy event, until something caught her eye.
It looked like a glitch in the recording at first...but when she slowed the video down, she saw a face.
"'Yong mukha n'ong babae, para siyang matanda siya na nakatagilid, pero 'pag tinitigan mo 'yong picture...wala siyang mata, parang maitim. Tapos sa bibig niya pag tinitigan mo, itim din siya kaya parang...tao ba 'to?"
It shocked her to see someone there, as it would have been impossible to pass in front of their videographer.
Mary Grace was frightened by the whole incident and wanted to find out who the strange guest is.
A ghost from the past?
Lay Minister Alberto Gatdulo, who has been serving at the St. Polycarp Parish Church for 15 years, confirmed that there have been reports of people seeing someone walking and then vanishing into thin air.
Gatdulo also recalled some dark moments in the church's history.
"Siguro nga dahil sa kahirapan na rin at siguro sa lupit na rin n'ong mga namumuno noong 1935 kaya nagkaroon din dito ng pag-aalsa ang mga tagarito. Naghimagsik laban sa pamahalaan, y'on ang tinatawag na Sakdalista," he shared with "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho."
"Ang sa pagkakasabi lang sa akin 'yon ay hindi sila nakuntento sa pamamalakad ng gobernador, ng namumuno noon dito. Malulupit daw ang mga konstable noong araw."
They died in front of the church, fighting guns with bolos. The bodies were taken to the cemetery and some of the people were buried alive.
And the woman in the photo? Gatdulo believes that she's from that era based on the veil she's wearing. Women weren't allowed to enter churches without a veil during that era.
"Ako ay naniniwala na ang tayong 'yan ay mga sinaunang tao na ang kaluluwa ay naliligaw pa," Gatdulo said.
Paranormal investigator Jade Martin confirmed that there seems to be unrest in this particular church.
KMJS additionally consulted photography expert to validate the image and he said that it doesn't seem that it was doctored, but another expert casted doubts on the video's authenticity.
... or is she someone familiar?
Mary Grace, determined to understand what's going on, turned to elders in her family. She showed the photos to Priscilla Delfino, her Lola Epoy.
Lola Epoy recognized the woman in the photographs almost immediately. "Lola mo 'yan, Lola Juliet mo 'yan," she declared and shared that her sister Juliet loved Mary Grace very much.
Referring to old photos, the woman who was seen in her wedding seemed to be wearing the same gown Lola Juliet wore for her own special day.
Lola Juliet had already passed away when Mary Grace was in her junior year in high school. She had taken care of Mary Grace most of her life and the two remained close until Lola Juliet's last moments.
"Ang tingin ko talaga siya," Lola Epoy said, referring to the photo. "Pakiwari ko hanggang ngayon e sinusubaybayan pa siya e."
Perhaps not every haunting is malevolent. Perhaps some spirits just want to send love from the other side. — AT, GMA News
