Winwyn Marquez on new Miss Reina Hispanoamericana crown: 'Please do not belittle the title'
Kapuso actress Winwyn Marquez is the first Filipina beauty queen to be crowned Miss Reina Hispanoamericana on Sunday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Many are unfamiliar of the new title and on Instagram Winwyn addressed the issue.
She shared a photo of her crowning moment with the caption: "Please do not belittle the title just because you don't know anything about it or dahil ngayon niyo lang narinig and nag ququestion bakit tayo kasali etc. please try do a little research and try to be open minded bago mag criticize ng sobra."
Marquez voiced out that she is grateful to be the first Filipina to be competing for Miss Reina Hisponamericana. She suggested that everyone should help each other up instead of "questioning everything."
"I am so honored to be the first ever Filipina to join this pageant and I'll be "Miss Philippines" in Bolivia and doon palang winner na ako. Instead of questioning everything magtulungan nalang tayo para makita ng lahat na BUO ang supporta ng mga pinoy," she wrote.
On the same post, she expressed how beholden she was to earn a crown and said she was given that position "for a reason."
"I wish I had a better photo of my crowning moment but i'll settle for this one, this moment was so surreal..hindi ko maexplain nararamdaman ko," she wrote. "The only thing that was on my mind was 'is this really happening?' I may not have won the top crown but I am still very very happy with my title. I know I was placed here for a reason though alam ko mahirap ang sasalihan ko and I only have a little time to prepare kakayanin pa din!"
She also took to Instagram to express her gratitude to to all the people behind her crown, tagging her Aces & Queens family, fashion designer Francis Libiran, her glam team Pong and Renz, her alma maters San Beda College Alabang and SISC, her Miss World Philippines sisters, her boyfriend Mark Herras, her siblings and friends.
Wyn said she is dedicating this win to her parents actress Alma Moreno and actor Joey Marquez.
"My loved ones (mark, my siblings and my friends) who always pushed me to follow my dreams and to never give up and ofcourse to my parents you two made me who I am today..you guys kept me grounded. They dont know how much you sacrificed for us and this is one way I can say thank you sainyo. My Diploma, Teaching Certificate and now my Crown is for you mama and daddy. Para sa mga pinagdaanan niyo and para sa pagpapalaki saamin ng maayos. "
Winwyn was a strong competitor against 34 other ladies who were vying for the titles. She was one of the top contenders during pre-pageant activities and was an early crowd favorite.
The 25-year-old beauty queen bagged three awards: Miss Savoy Hotel Boracay, Talent, and Beach Beauty.
During the nerve-racking question and answer portion, Wyn composedly answered the question from Megan Young, "how can you convince the judges that you are worthy of becoming Miss World Philippines 2017?
Her answer was: "I live a life of substance and meaning and that is through service. I uphold social awareness and treasure empathy. I am here ready to give my whole self and to give a win win situation to the organization. I will continue to make beautiful life with determine and passion for my advocacy as well."
