Half-Filipino Miss Universe Malaysia aspirant is already breaking barriers

Evita Delmundo is the epitome of confidently beautiful. The 20-year-old is chasing her dreams of becoming a beauty queen as she auditions for Miss Universe Malaysia 2018.

Delmundo is part Rungus, an indigenous group from Sabah, and part Filipino. She was born with moles all over her body and, in an interview with Elle Malaysia, revealed that she was called "monster" because of it.

"At first, I really wanted to [have them removed]. But after seeking advice from doctors, I learned that it could be a risk to my health. So I just had to accept that this is the body I've been given. But now I'm grateful I didn't change anything," she told Elle.

Her idol? None other than Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach. Delmundo said that Wurtzbach's inner beauty and confidence serves as an inspiration for her.

Now that she's chasing her own dreams, Delmundo also hopes to become a role model for people struggling with body image issues.

"It's always been a dream for me to try out for Miss Universe Malaysia. I feel like it's a good way for me to showcase my uniqueness and newfound confidence, and hopefully I can also inspire others," she shared.

The Miss Universe organization took note of Delmundo's story, picking up the story and republishing it on the official website. — Aya Tantiangco/BM, GMA News
