The 5'6" half-German beauty, who moved to the Philippines at the age of 15, outlasted fellow Pinays Jennica Sanchez, 20, and Angelica Santillan, 22, in the regional reality competition.
She was the last Filipina standing by the time she reached the final three, which she said put a lot of pressure on her.
"So I have a lot of pressure especially because I was the girl with the least experience," she said in a report on Balitanghali last week. "I knew that there is no way of giving up and I have to win this because no Filipino has ever won, so it is important to me to fight and stay strong."
On her way to winning the title, Maureen withstood some not-so-kind words from some fellow top model candidates who told her in one widely shared video clip that she didn't deserve to be in the competition.
