Young woman once bullied for her dark skin wins Mutya ng Taguig crown

A young woman who grew up being bullied for her dark skin has won the Mutya ng Taguig crown.

Lovely G. Lamptey rose above the pack during the Question and Answer portion when she opened up about the taunting she endured when she was young.

Asked what she wanted to change in her life so far, Lamptey shared, "It would be the time when I was still a coward. When I was young I was bullied for my skin color and the way I speak."

"I believed that all those criticism were true and I started to neglect how it really feels to be lovely," she continued. "But then, my father told me that the only way that people will see the beauty in you is if you accept yourself for who you really are...and then I learned to be strong and love myself for who I am."

In true beauty queen fashion, Lamptey concluded with a call for kindness and compassion, saying, "A real Mutya should be a resilient woman who is responsible, who has a hand of compassion, a heart of love and also has a heart for her people."

Lamptey and her fellow queens Christine Alen T. Rada, Micah Claudette L. Pulido, Cryss Julienne Y. Cuevas, and Nathalie M. Colipano were crowned on May 21st. — Aya Tantiangco/BM, GMA News
