Doc 'prescribes' pair of shoes to Imelda Marcos

The “Imeldific’ will soon be adding yet another new pair of shoes to her more than 3,000 collection of footwear. However, caprice won’t be the reason behind former First Lady Imelda Marcos’s purchase of a new pair of foot accessory. GMA News’s 24 Oras reported Monday night that a doctor at the St. Luke’s Medical Center told Mrs Marcos to buy a pair of orthopedic shoes, which could help in relieving pain in her knees. "Can you imagine? The prescription of the orthopedic doctor was to have more shoes. And I said, sure," a delighted Marcos told reporters, adding she now has a "justification" to buy more of her favorite collection. On September 15, Marcos was admitted to the hospital after complaining of cough and pain in her knees. Marcos’s spokesman, Ding Diaz said that Marcos, who underwent a coronary angiogram, was found fit enough to leave the medical facility on Monday. "What the orthopedic surgeon did was to prescribe her a correct type of shoes that is broad-based with a bit of a heel," said the hospital's medical director Joven Cuanang. Cuanang said doctors also advised Marcos to slim down a bit to lessen the weight that her weak knee joints bear. Early last week, severe pain in both knees forced Marcos to cut short her trip to China's Jilin province to attend a trade fair. She also had to skip seeing an eye doctor in Hong Kong. Right before leaving St. Luke's, the wife of late strongman Ferdinand Marcos also denied reports that she was suffering from heart problems. "So it is now confirmed that I even have a heart," said Mrs Marcos who has repeatedly dodged criminal and civil charges of amassing ill-gotten wealth during the tenure of her husband. The mere mention of Imelda sparks thoughts of a lavish lifestyle fit for a queen. The former first lady is known to have bought properties outside the Philippines, splurged on shopping, purchased expensive pieces of jewelry, and, as she is most popularly known for, collected shoes. The Guinness World Records has cited Marcos for her extensive shoe collection. The official number of pairs remain unknown but previous reports pegged the number between 3,000 and 5,000 pairs. So much are the glitz and extravagance attached to her name that a new word was coined after it: "Imeldific." Online dictionaries wordspy.com and urbandictionary.com list the word 'Imeldific' as pertaining to something that is "ostentatiously extravagant." - GMANews.TV
