‘King Arthur’ TV spot boasts giant monsters, armies, and mayhem

It won’t be long now before we get to see “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword” on the big screen, prompting Warner Brothers to amp up its marketing campaign.

You know what that means: a brand new trailer and new promo images!

The trailer is a TV spot entitled “Great Rulers,” and it features new footage from the film.

In addition, we get a bunch of new posters, including one where Arthur swings his sword at his greatest nemesis: thin air.

We’ve had hundreds of movies based on the King Arthur legend since the invention of cinema. It seems director and co-screenwriter Guy Ritchie, however, seeks to inject a fantastical sort of freshness into the old tale by way of flashy magical mayhem… and giant monsters? Seriously, are those Mumakil from “Lord of the Rings”?

“King Arthur: Legend of the Sword” stars Charlie Hunnam (“Sons of Anarchy,” “Pacific Rim”) as Arthur, who must reclaim his birthright from the man responsible for the death of his parents — his villainous uncle Vortigern, played by Jude Law (“The Young Pope,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel”).

Other actors include Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey as Guinevere; Djimon Hounsou as Sir Bedivere; Eric Bana as Arthur’s father, Uther Pendragon; and Aidan Gillen as Goosefat Bill Wilson.

Guy Ritche is known for directing 2009’s “Sherlock Holmes” and its 2011 sequel, “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.” He has been enlisted to direct Disney’s live-action remake of “Aladdin.”
