Miss Universe Iris Mittenaere says goodbye to the Philippines

Three days after winning the Miss Universe crown in the Philippines, French beauty queen Iris Mittenaere is flying to New York City, which will be her home base for the duration of her reign.

On Thursday, she addressed the Filipinos on her last Instagram post in Manila.

“Last hour in my second home... Philippines, forever in my heart. Mahal ko kayo,” she said.

According to Iris, she cannot wait to go back to the Philippines and discover more of its beautiful islands.

“I want to come back. I will, I will,” she said in a short video message.

In a previous interview, the new Miss Universe raved about the places she visited for the ancillary events of the 65th Miss Universe, including Cebu and Baguio.

Iris said, “The Philippines is very beautiful. I really love Cebu and Baguio. Baguio is wow. I think it’s my favorite place, for the moment. The Philippines also has the most welcoming people I’ve ever seen.”

“I want to discover more. I just saw a little bit, and I want to see more. I want to go to Boracay—and you have a lot more islands! I want to see them,” she added.

Among those who sent Iris off was Tourism Undersecretary Kat De Castro, who even got the chance to try on the Miss Universe crown.

“The Philippines will always be close to Iris’ heart. ‘Til we meet again!” De Castro said.
