65th Miss Universe changes rules for grand coronation event

The Miss Universe Organization will follow new mechanics for the grand coronation event of the 65th Miss Universe pageant on January 30, 2017 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City—the “12-9-6-3 format.” 

Instead of the usual Top 15, the jury from the preliminary competition on Thursday will pick 12 of the best candidates from the 86 delegates from all over the world for the first round of the competition, according to a News To Go report.

These ladies will go through the swimsuit competition during the coronation event on Monday and will be judged by a different panel.

From the Top 12, nine candidates will be picked to go through the evening gown competition, then only six will adavance to the Question-and-Answer portion.

Finally, the Top 3 candidates will do a final walk on stage for the judges' final look before the second runner-up, first runner-up, and the new Miss Universe are announced.

This year, Miss Universe has decided to do away with the second round of Q&A for the Top 3. Last year, it was during this second round that reigning Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach uttered her now famous line, "confidently beautiful with a heart."
