Butanding, lechon await Miss Universe candidates

Adventures and feasts await the Miss Universe 2016 candidates who will be touring the Philippines ahead of the pageant next year.

Miss Australia, Miss China, Miss Indonesia, Miss Japan, Miss Korea, Miss New Zealand, Miss Malaysia, Miss Myanmar, Miss Thailand, and Miss USA will arrive on December 9 for the kickoff party the following day at Conrad Hotel in Pasay City.

A press release from the Department on Tourism on Wednesday said that the ladies will stay in the country for a week.

Their brief stay will be packed with adventures, including swimming with the butanding or whale sharks of Oslob in Cebu.

They will also be treated to Cebu's famous lechon or roasted pig.

The city will be the venue for the swimwear presentation of over 90 candidates.

Other cities that will be visited by the candidates include Davao, Bicol, and Vigan.

In an earlier interview, DOT Sec. Wanda Teo said that they will also be flown to Siargao. —KG, GMA News
