Target shooting a la secret agent at Sky Range Shooting Club

We’ve all seen those Hollywood films wherein secret agents or superheroes are ushered in to some cool clandestine location to be briefed about their assignment, then later on led to a state-of-the-art facility to train for their mission. I recently had a feel of that.

The itinerary began with a trip to the mezzanine of Solaire Resort and Casino’s Theater building. The elevator doors opened to a grand foyer with a modern design concept. The enclosure was that of floor to ceiling glass and the ambience was very cordial. This was the entrance to the Sky Range Shooting Club, the first indoor state-of-the-art shooting range in the country.

I was welcomed by their courteous staff who were garbed in all black, adding to the “we mean business” environment. There are after all rules in the club for strict observance, one of which is “no horseplay.”

I picked my guns of choice—a 9 mm pistol and a caliber 5.56 mm rifle—and signed the club’s waiver.

For first timers, a detailed explanation on gun handling and safety will be given, while just a reminder briefing awaits those with prior experience. Then, together with a Sky Range licensed shooter, we proceeded to the target bay and equipped ourselves with the electronic earmuffs and shooting glasses. After familiarizing with the weapon and some adjustments, I fired away.

Ready, aim, fire!

Sky Range Shooting Club opened in January 2016. It is a 20-lane impressive indoor shooting range designed by Action Target System, an internationally acclaimed company specializing in shooting ranges and firearms.

Fifteen lanes of 25 meters were allotted as pistol bay while five lanes of 50 meters were set aside for the rifle bay. The shooting range has deluxe automatic target retrievers, tactical safety baffles, dust collection units and advanced ventilation and exhaust units. It is fully carpeted and air-conditioned.

I have been to several indoor shooting ranges in the country and this is beyond compare, from the protocol being observed by the staff, to the wide selection of artillery for rent. I can see how this club will become a hit among enthusiasts.

Sky Range Shooting Club offers these amenities for a price, though, aimed to cater primarily to its members.

The club offers membership packages ranging from P50,000 to P700,000.

Solaire guests and non-members can shoot for a day by getting the day pass for P11,000. Prior reservation is required.

A gourmet café, locker rooms, cigar lounge and bullet-proof glass viewing lounge also add to the attraction, and in this age of social media, I assure you that the club is highly photogenic. —KG, GMA News
