What we can learn from Mr. and Mrs. Sotto’s love story

Five years later, Vic Sotto and Pauleen Luna seem more in love than ever. Getting to the altar wasn't easy: Pauleen had to contend with people doubting her love for Vic, while Vic had to deal with almost everyone pointing out their age gap.

But the pair stayed together and on Saturday, they accepted the challenge to stay together, in sickness and in health, as husband and wife.

Their love story is one for the books. Romantics, take heed of these nuggets of wisdom that may lead to lasting love.

The one could come in the form of a second chance

Feeling forever alone? Cheer up, Vic Sotto is 61 years old and he found an ever after. He could've given up when his marriage with Dina Bonnevie ended, but instead, he chose happiness with Pauleen Luna. You don't know what's in store for you, so don't mope just yet.

People are going to talk, but you don't have to listen

In common parlance: "Ang mga tao, ang daming alam!" On the day of the nuptials, a meme of Pauleen Luna's stint in Little Miss Philippines went viral on social media and yet again, people made fun of the age gap between Mr. and Mrs. Sotto. But why expend emotions on naysayers when the people who know you best are happy for you?

You can do your thing on your own or with someone

Clooney did it and now, the Philippines' Bossing has done it. You could be doing the thing you love most and be really famous (not to mention well-off), and you can either go it alone or have someone to share the adventure with.

Great moments happen in mundane settings

There's a plethora of grand proposals available for your viewing pleasure on YouTube and while those are sweet, the promise of forever could also be found in quieter, simpler settings. Exhibit A: Sotto proposing in a bathroom. It may not sound as romantic, but making (and fulfilling) the promise is definitely more important than the brouhaha that surrounds it.

Maybe, just maybe, #mayforever

It may not be true for you right now, but it doesn't mean it won't be true for you later. It's quite difficult to stay cynical when you see these lovers declaring their intention to be with each other for the rest of their lives. — Aya Tantiangco/BM, GMA News
