Italian leather goods brand Tod’s launches new collection

International leather goods brand Tod’s launched its Spring/Summer 2016 collection Wednesday afternoon over champagne and hors d'oeuvres in the presidential suite of the Fairmont Hotel, Makati.

The material used for the women’s bags come from exclusive tanneries all over the world and are all-natural. The Tod’s Wave Bag, the brand’s key style for the season, is a bag shaped like the fluid swell of the sea, an impression reinforced by the curved movement of the zip that opens and closes it. It comes in many sizes, materials and colors with some models featuring macro lozenges, multi-colored leather and fringe.

The fringe detail also continues in some of the footwear along with stripes, lasered patterns and a variety of leathers from patent to snakeskin.

There is also a contemporary musical theme running throughout the collection—a surprising and refreshing take given that most brands are going with floral themes—from the playful moccasins to the use of studs and guitar-inspired motifs, making the collection edgy with a slight touch of rock and roll. This author has featured Tod’s Spring/Summer collection for three consecutive years and this 2016 capsule is a personal favorite. It caters to a different demographic of women who in summer are not always a fan of flowers and pastels.

For the men, the arrival of a new signature detail is highlighted: the Leo Clamp, a a sturdy, geometric metal band found on the iconic Tod’s Gommino shoe and also on the moccasins and loafers. The rest of the men’s collection is colorful, featuring hand-painted contrasting color details applied not just to the shoes but also to small leather goods. — BM, GMA News
