Miss Colombia’s side of the story: ‘In four minutes they destroy your dreams’
Following Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach's appearance on Good Morning America, the show also aired the side of runner-up Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo, translated from a Univision interview.
The beauty queen's eyes were dry, but she had very strong words against the way the coronation night was handled: "In four minutes they destroy your dreams, they throw it in a bag, and they throw it in the trash."
"I feel like it doesn't matter to them the feelings of a girl who has worked her whole life for a dream," Gutierrez added.
Gutierrez stated that she "cried a ton" in her parents' room that night, reeling from what she had previously called a humiliating experience.
In a separate interview for Colombian magazine TV y Novelas, Gutierrez clarified that she holds no grudges against reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach: "No, para nada. No tengo ningún resentimiento. Nos llevamos bien y estamos buscando la paz porque se ha generado una especie de conflicto entre la comunidad latina y ellos." (Not at all. I have no resentment. We get along well and we are searching for peace because conflict has been generated between the Latin Community and them.)
Gutierrez recognizes that Pia Wurtzbach is Miss Universe, but she still feels like a winner, saying, "Ella es la Miss Universo, yo lo fui por 4 minutos y para muchos lo sigo siendo." (She is Miss Universe. It was me for four minutes and for many, it's still me.) — Aya Tantiangco/BM, GMA News
