Special Ad Feature: Filipinos send money to support mom more than any other family member

If Transfast.com’s Filipino customers are any indication, there will be a lot of happy moms, mamas and nanays in the Philippines this Mother’s Day, May 10.

In a new survey undertaken this week, Transfast’s Filipino customers who send money online to the Philippines say the top family member that they support with a money transfer is their mom. Forty-nine percent of survey respondents send money online to their moms in the Philippines, year-round.

For Mother’s Day, when asked which gift they send their mom, customers say they prefer to send money or money transfers (38%), followed by flowers (17%), and then jewelry (9%). What amount will Transfast customers spend on their moms? More than 34% plan to spend between $51 and $100 for their gift, followed by 26% who plan to spend between $101 to $250.

Transfast customers call their moms Mama (43%), Nanay (24%), and Mom/Mommy (24%). No matter what endearing term they call her, they love her and they love her cooking. The top three Filipino dishes that Transfast customers say their moms cook best are: Adobo – pork or chicken stewed in vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, bay leaves, and peppercorns, (52%); Sinigang – sour and savory tamarind-based soup with pork and vegetables (40%); and Kare-Kare, ox tail stew in a peanut-based sauce (26%).

Mom is beloved for her meals, and she’s just as beloved for her amazing qualities. The top three traits that Transfast customers most admire in their moms are: kindness (41%), strength (31%), and perseverance (17%). With those admirable qualities, we also asked Transfast customers about what topics they turned to their mom to for advice. The advice they received from mom tended to be about respect (27%), faith (20%), education (15%) and hard work (15%).

On Mother’s Day, we at Transfast salute all the amazing moms and wish you the very happiest Mother’s Day!
