Alamid singer Gary Ignacio 'died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends'

Alamid front man Gary Ignacio spent his last moments in the company of his family and friends before he took his last breath.

The 49-year-old singer, the voice behind hit songs "Your Love" and "China Eyes," died of multiple organ failure on Friday after battling kidney cancer for eight months.

“He died very peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends,” said Gary's wife Buena Ignacio in a news release. “He gave a good fight and did not give up until the very end."

"Since his diagnosis in 2014, he radiated strength and optimism, unwavering in his desire to live and continue making music for us and his fans," she added.

Gary's brother Gail, who later joined the band as a drummer, also took the time to remember his Kuya's legacy.

“Kuya Gary touched many lives with his music. He had pure vocal talent, raw passion, and poured his heart out with each performance,” he said.

He also thanked the fans for the love they showered to the singer.

“We are deeply grateful to the outpouring of support from his fans and friends since day one of his battle with cancer," he said. "He may be gone but his music will continue to live and inspire us.” -- JST, GMA News
