Nursing board topnotcher chooses to work in PHL
“There's no place like home” is a cliche. But for Ma. Margaret Sanchez, topnotcher of the May 2014 Nursing Licensure Examination, the familiarities of home and the sense of fulfillment she experiences from nursing a countryman are the main reasons she chose to work in the Philippines.
“Iba po kasi talaga dito. Mas gusto ko pong mag-serve sa mga tao dito,” Sanchez said in an interview on GMA News “24 Oras” on Tuesday.
“Masarap po yung pagtanggap ng mga tao dito sa Pilipinas. Iba talaga 'pag pinagsisilbihan mo yung mga sarili mong kababayan,” Sanchez added.
A University of Santo Tomas (UST) alumna, Sanchez scored 86% in the recent Nursing board exam, topping the list of 11,225 passers out of the 29,188 examinees.
Sanchez said she did not expect to earn the highest score in the examination, although she admitted that she reviewed volumes of books for several months in preparation for the test.
She said she intends to keep studying to achieve her dream of becoming a surgeon.
And even when the time comes that she is called Dr. Sanchez, the young nurse said she would continue to work in the Philippines. — Elizabeth Marcelo/DVM, GMA News
