Swimming lawyer crosses Babuyan channel to promote Cagayan tourism

Ingemar Macarine has done it again. The lawyer and environmentalist, known to some as "Pinoy Aquaman," swam across the Babuyan Channel to promote tourism on Palaui Island, according to a report on "Balitanghali" Monday.

Macarine swam 7.2 kilometers from Palaui to Sta. Ana, Cagayan, in about two hours.

Macarine is best known for a feat he accomplished in California in April: swimming nearly three kilometers from the former prison island of Alcatraz to Aquatic Park in San Francisco.

Before this, the part-time triathlete swam the Surigao Channel twice—first in December 2013 from Basul Island to Lipata, Surigao City (a 4.2 km swim), and again this February, going from Hikdop Island to Surigao City (a distance of 12.82 km by sea).

Last month, Macarine attempted to swim from Southern Leyte to Surigao—also to promote tourism, as well as care for the marine environment—but strong currents pushed him towards Camiguin and he had to abandon his attempt. — BM, GMA News
