You are one those people who eagerly await the next big blockbuster installment. You are not just any other moviegoer who's happy with the regular screen; you want huge visuals and the sound of gunfire and explosions almost bursting your eardrums. You want to be surrounded by the sound and the spectacle. You want IMAX.
There are currently eight IMAX screens in the Philippines, all of them in SM Cinemas. The latest IMAX theater opened last week in SM Megamall's new Mega Fashion Hall in Building D.
The screen is humongous, bigger than the standard theater screen and slightly curved. With the seats also angled, the audience is allowed an unbarred view of the movie. The theater features exclusively IMAX-made films like "IMAX Under Sea 3D" and "IMAX Space Station 3D," as well as Hollywood movies like "47 Ronin" and "Robocop".
The latter movie was screened as the theater's inaugural offering at the media launch, where attendees were treated to digital surround sound, crystal-clear images, and delicious food served by trained in-house butlers.
Outside in the well-lit lobby, there are soft round seats and a snack bar. Inside the theater, there are rows of big, plush red seats that lean back. Each row has enough space so that you can get up for a restroom break with ease and without much inconvenience to the other viewers. When you reach the aisle, the steps are also wide enough to climb easily.
The cinema boasts of 472 seats with provisions for persons with disability.

For a more intimate movie experience, there is the Director’s Club Cinema (DCC), a cozy, deluxe theater specializing in personalized service for the moneyed movie geek. It is equipped with the highest quality cinema projection equipment and the most advanced technology in digital surround sound.
The DDC's small space is well-appointed with 56 La-Z-Boys. If those aren't your thing, there are also beanbags to lounge on. Like the IMAX theater, the DCC offers scrumptious snacks served by trained staff. It offers a different kind of screening experience that is ideal for corporate functions, movie launches, private parties and other events.
