A symbol of hope amid the rubble of devastation: a giant parol has gone up in Tacloban City in the middle of the remains of buildings and homes, according to a report on Balitanghali Monday.
A photo taken by Youscooper Rave Garcia shows the large Christmas star bearing the design of the Philippine flag, with streamers of "light" emanating from its points.
The star is just one of several signs marking the normally festive holiday season in the region devastated by Typhoon Yolanda last month: survivors have been attending the Simbang Gabi, while in the Southern Leyte capital of Maasin a tall, brightly lit Christmas tree stands. It seems that not even a super typhoon is as strong as the Filipino spirit. — BM, GMA News
