Style-wise: What to keep in mind when pairing bags and outfits
Getting dressed up every day can be a bit of a chore—and sometimes you simply can’t be bothered to put together a good outfit. But one easy way to do it is to work your outfit around the bag you're going to use.
There’s no one rule in mixing and matching bags and outfits, but it helps to know your colors, materials and the over-all look you’re going for.
To style your outfit accordingly, know what you’ve got planned for the day and put that into your ensemble. A day at work calls for a bag that could fit a laptop or a notebook. But if there’s an important business meeting on the schedule, you may opt for a more sophisticated number.
Below, some tips with visual aids thanks to the two-day Hedgren style fair at the Glorietta Activity Center last August 15 and 16. The Belgian bag and backpack manufacturer held the fair to celebrate its 20th year.

Every city dweller knows the need for a bag that really serves its purpose. Lots of pockets, ample room, and a nice, comfortable carrying mechanism are things to look for in the utilitarian bag.
But how do you wear this practical number without sacrificing style?
Let's say you create your style around the duffel bag you're going to use. A smart pair of sneakers or loafers would look great with shorts.
Throw on a blazer or structured top to make it a bit dressier. The bag itself can be accessorized with a cute little bow or scarf tied around the strap.
Tote bags, too, can be very practical. The boxy shape makes it ideal for carrying folders, papers or laptops while adding an edge to your outfit. Wear your tote with a trusty pair of jeans or chinos for a laidback look or bring it up a notch with a pretty dress.
Fun and quirky
Bright colors and prints are a great way to have fun with your outfit. Whether it’s for work or for play, a fun and quirky ensemble is sometimes the best way to get you through the day.

Wearing printed bags against a printed piece also has a similarly quirky effect. Just mix similar or complementary tones and materials for an easy match.
Wearing a bold, colored bag with equally bold prints will easily make you stand out. For something a little more subdued, putting together a simple palette of complementary colors like blue and orange is a little less loud.
Power-dressing perfect
Some of Hedgren’s sophisticated workwear pieces are perfect for dressing for success. In power-dressing, it’s all about the silhouette. Choose pieces that really fit your form nicely because the key to looking good is feeling good and being able to project that in the way you carry yourself.

If you’re feeling a bit drab in your workwear, adding a little sparkle or edge can amp it up for you. A killer pair of high heels is a great way to feel sexy and give you and your outfit that extra boost. Jewels, even on your bag, can also complete the look very nicely.
Whether you’re the type to don a pair of slouchy harem pants or power-dress to the max in a form-fitting pencil skirt, there should always be a bag to match your style and if you find it, you’re bound to shine. — BM, GMA News
