As R&B singer Iyaz returned to the Philippines for a New Year countdown concert, he expressed his desire to get the most out of his stay here and said Filipinos know how to have fun.
In a press conference at the Richmonde Hotel in Pasig on Saturday, Iyaz was asked why it’s more fun in the Philippines, referencing the popular tourism slogan of the country.
“I think it’s more fun in the Philippines because island people know how to have fun,” Iyaz said.
“Energy, fun, participation from the crowd, that’s what it’s all about," said Iyaz.
“We do it better than [other people],” he also said, alluding to his roots. Iyaz was born in the United States Virgin Islands.
He also said that while in the Philippines, he will make the most out of his stay, and also noted that compared to his previous visit here, he is more open now to more experiences in the country.
He mentioned that prior to his press conference, he had eaten sisig, which he laughingly said “was different.”
He also mentioned enjoying the beef tapa he had for breakfast, though he could not remember what it was called.
“I don’t know how to say it, I just know it tastes good,” Iyaz said, noting as well that he wolfed down the white rice that he also ate along with the tapa.
“I’m definitely open to trying new stuff as far as food [is concerned] this time around. I was a little scared last time, but I’m open this time, so let’s see what happens,” Iyaz also said.
The singer also said he plans to go on sightseeing and enjoy the country’s culture. He also expressed a desire to go to Boracay.
While laughing, Iyaz admitted that he doesn’t know how long his stay is in the country after his concert, but mentioned doing all that he could while he is still here.
Born Keidran Jones, Iyaz is set to perform at a New Year countdown concert at the Eastwood Mall Open Park on Monday.
Iyaz is known for his songs “Replay,” “Solo,” “Pretty Girls,” and for being featured in the song “Pyramid” with Charice.
Asked what Filipinos can expect from his performance on Monday, Iyaz assured that they will get a show.
“Energy, fun, participation from the crowd, that’s what it’s all about. The more energy I get from the crowd, the more energy I give out,” Iyaz said.
Other musicians to perform with Iyaz on Monday are Ely Buendia and Up Dharma Down, among others. – KDM, GMA News
