Juvenal Sansó, artist and founder of Fundacion Sansó, dies at 95

Juvenal Sansó, multi-awarded artist and Fundacion Sansó founder, has passed away. He was 95 years old.
According to Fundacion Sansó’s post on Facebook, he died on Friday, March 28. No cause of death was given.
“A celebrated artist, Sansó received the Presidential Medal of Merit Award from the Republic of the Philippines, the Order of Isabella, a knighthood from the King of Spain, and the Chevalier des Arts et Letres from the French Government. In his long and productive life, Sansó established himself as one of the country’s most notable modernists with more than 70 years of work,” the caption said.
“His legacy lives on in Fundacion Sansó; which has been running his museum, authenticating his works, and awarding scholarships to deserving art students, scholars, artists, and cultural workers all over the country, as well as creating programs that promote art and culture, as Sansó wished.”
Details of his wake have yet to be posted.
Born in Spain, Sansó moved to the Philippines in 1934 and learned to speak Tagalog fluently.
He became a student at the University of the Philippines School of Fine Arts and studied under such professors as Fernando Amorsolo, Dominador Castaneda, and Ireneo Miranda.
The multi-faceted artist brought creations made with painted oils, watercolor, acrylic, dry brush and ink, among others.
