Inside the Tandang Sora Women’s Museum in Quezon City

Inside the Tandang Sora Women’s Museum in Quezon City

The Tandang Sora Women's Museum opened in Quezon City last February, on the death anniversary of the late Filipina revolutionary, Melchora Aquino, also known as Tandang Sora. It has the hopes of educating people about Philippine "her story."

What the QC government deems as the first women's museum in the country, the Tandang Sora Women's Museum spotlights the significant role in Philippine story of the Filipina revolutionary.

The two-story building, inspired by the "bahay na bato" and funded by the office of Sen. Risa Hontiveros, is located beside the Tandang Sora shrine at her home on Banlat Road in Quezon City.

The museum is still a work in progress, but the vision is clear: Apart from educating people about the Philippine "herstory," the museum also wants to be something for and of the people. Interactive corners come aplenty, with spaces allowing and encouraging creators, artists, and visitors alike to participate in the ongoing recording of Filipinas' stories.

As of writing, admission is free until March 31, with an entrance fee of P50 to be collected afterwards, according to authorities.

Tandang Sora Women's Museum, Banlat Road, Quezon City. Tuesdays to Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
